BIOGRAPHY

Maya Suess lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She recently moved from Vancouver, BC, Canada where she completed a Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance. Her work uses music, playful text and wry
wit to examine issues of identity, sexuality and personal responsibility. She creates innovative performances that draw from both a theatrical sensibility and a conceptual art framework. Her single channel video works have been shown in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan,
and her performative installations have excited viewers in the U.S. and Canada. Employing audience-performer proximity as a central strategy, Suess produces work that is completed by the audience's presence.

Maya Suess recently received a New York State Council for the Arts Independant Artist's Production Grant for her upcoming project “It It and the Gimme Box;” and is currently an alternate Artist in Residence at Harvestworks Digital Media Center.
